Adopt Calamari the American Pit Bull Terrier 🐾

To bring Calamari home, visitors can start by arranging a meet and greet interaction through volunteers or staff at Chicago Animal Care and Control. Spending time together in person often gives adopters a much better understanding of the dog's personality and energy level.

Some interactions happen outdoors in enclosed areas while others happen inside quieter rooms depending on weather conditions and shelter activity. Visitors may spend the interaction walking with him, sitting nearby, or simply observing how he reacts during one on one attention.

Volunteers can explain adoption timing, medical procedures, fostering options, and what remaining recovery steps may still need to happen before Calamari is ready to leave the shelter. If surgery is still pending, additional recovery time afterward may affect pickup availability.

For many adopters, the decision becomes easier once they are able to interact directly with the dog rather than relying only on photos or written descriptions.
