Meet Safari the American Pit Bull Terrier 🐾

Helping Safari leave the shelter could begin with spending time together during a meet and greet visit at Chicago Animal Care and Control. Some dogs appear much more relaxed once they are outside the kennel area and able to interact with visitors in a quieter environment.

Depending on the interaction, visitors may spend time walking with him, using treats or toys, or simply sitting nearby while getting to know him better. Some dogs become more playful outside while others seem calmer and more comfortable once things become less crowded.

Volunteers are usually available to answer questions about adoption, fostering, surgery recovery, and rescue partner involvement. Spending time together in person often helps visitors imagine what life together outside the shelter could potentially look like.

Some rescue organizations may also coordinate foster placements for visitors interested in helping him leave the shelter sooner. Foster homes often provide dogs additional time to decompress and settle into quieter routines outside the shelter environment.
