Adopt Ahoy the American Pit Bull Terrier 🐾

For many visitors, meeting Ahoy outside the kennel environment completely changes the experience. Some dogs become more playful during one on one interaction while others simply seem relieved to relax in calmer surroundings for a while.

At Chicago Animal Care and Control, dogs may be brought into outdoor interaction yards or quieter indoor rooms depending on weather conditions and shelter activity. Visitors may spend time walking with him, using treats or toys, or simply sitting nearby while getting to know him better.

Volunteers are usually available to answer questions about fostering, adoption procedures, rescue partner involvement, and surgery recovery expectations. Spending time together during the meet and greet often gives people a much better understanding of how he responds outside the shelter environment.

Some visitors arrive planning to foster while others begin considering adoption after the interaction. Watching him relax and interact in calmer surroundings often makes it easier to picture what life together outside the shelter could eventually look like.
