At Chicago Animal Care and Control, visits may happen in outdoor interaction yards or quieter indoor meet and greet rooms depending on weather conditions and shelter activity that day. Some visitors spend time walking with them while others use toys or treats during the interaction while getting to know them better.

Volunteers are usually nearby to answer questions about adoption, fostering, surgery scheduling, and rescue partner programs. Rescue organizations may also provide supplies, food, and veterinary care for approved fosters interested in helping them transition into a more stable environment outside the shelter.
