Meet Watermelon the American Pit Bull Terrier 🐾

To adopt Watermelon, visit Chicago Animal Care and Control and ask volunteers about arranging a meet and greet visit. Depending on weather conditions and shelter activity, she may be brought into one of the outdoor interaction yards or a quieter indoor room where visitors can spend time together away from the busiest shelter traffic.

Some adopters spend the interaction walking with her while others use toys or treats while getting to know her better. Spending time together outside the kennel environment often gives visitors a much clearer understanding of how she responds in calmer surroundings.

Volunteers can explain adoption timing, surgery scheduling, and what remaining medical steps may still need to be completed before Watermelon is ready to go home. If surgery is still pending, she may need additional recovery time afterward before pickup becomes available.

Some visitors also begin considering fostering after learning more about rescue partner programs during the interaction. Rescue organizations may provide food, supplies, and veterinary support throughout foster placement.
