Are You Thinking About Adopting Shiitake?

If Shiitake feels like he could be a good fit for your home, meeting him in person may help you better understand how he responds during one on one interaction outside the busiest shelter areas. Some visits at Chicago Animal Care and Control begin in smaller enclosed spaces before moving into larger yards where dogs have additional room to move around and exercise.

Volunteers are usually available during visits to answer questions about adoption timing, surgery scheduling, fostering, and rescue partner involvement. Some rescue organizations may also help coordinate foster placements while applications are being reviewed.

Visitors may spend time walking with him, using toys or treats, or simply observing how he behaves once things become calmer and less crowded than the kennel area. Spending time together during the interaction often provides a much clearer understanding of how he responds outside the shelter environment.

If surgery still needs to be completed before adoption can be finalized, Shiitake may need additional recovery time afterward before pickup becomes available. Recovery timelines may vary depending on medical scheduling and post procedure care.
